Scarborough is one of the most popular seaside resorts England has to offer. It has that classic historical charm that is personified by amusement arcades, donkey rides and sticks of rock. While Scarborough has all of this, it offers you a whole lot more as well. Towering cliffs and sandy beaches, accompanied by the ornate architecture that transports you back to Victorian times will make you feel that even though it’s historical in nearly every aspect, it’s a fantastic place to visit in springtime.
In this blog, we’ve put together a list of fun things to do in Scarborough in spring:
Scarborough Castle is a stunning 12th-century structure that overlooks the town, high up on the surrounding headland. It endured five sieges, though the English Civil War, unfortunately, reduced it to its current state of ruin. Nevertheless, it attracts many visitors each year, where you can walk among the battlements to get a great view of Scarborough and the sea beyond.
South Bay Beach
South Bay Beach is an iconic location in Scarborough, due to its donkey rides, soft sand and impressive Grand Hotel looking down from the hilltop. You can even traverse down from the hotel to the beach, just as you would in the Victorian era. On warm and sunny days, it can get as busy as a beach in the Mediterranean, although the sea will be a lot colder, with most people not going in past their knees.
Nothing says a day at the seaside like eating some good old fish and chips, especially in a stunning setting, such as Scarborough Harbour. This historical harbour is the heart of Scarborough, where fishermen bring in their daily catch so it’s no wonder why there are so many excellent seafood restaurants lining the docks. A few good places include First Catch and Harbour View Cafe, whereas the names suggest, you’ll be granted a marvellous view across the sheltered harbour towards the old lighthouse.
After a whole day exploring this seaside town, you’ll need somewhere to put your feet up. Staxton Vale Lodges have an excellent selection of lodges available, so visit our website today.
