Located just outside Scarborough and nestled in the Yorkshire countryside, owning one of Staxton Vale’s luxury lodges gives you the opportunity to have an easy base from which to explore a huge number of Yorkshire’s top tourist attractions, no matter which activities you prefer. While some may choose a holiday home here for easy access to Yorkshire towns like Scarborough and Bridlington, others love the area’s local history, while some simply want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy being close to nature.

The area is also a popular spot for keen walkers and hikers, with both coastal routes and more rural inland options, with difficulty levels to suit all abilities. Here are some of our favourite walks in the area around Staxton Vale.

Forge Valley Wood

This two-mile linear route through this National Nature Reserve is an easy, level walk across wooden boardwalks for the most part. It’s a great place to be at one with nature, with regular viewing points and benches en route, and it’s the perfect route for a family day out.

The Cornelian Trail

A 4.9 mile route, The Cornelian Trail will allow you to explore both the coast and inland areas around Scarborough. The sites you’ll take in will include Scarborough’s famous smuggler’s coast: from here, contraband was taken to the Three Mariners Inn, where secret tunnels and hidden cupboards helped the smugglers to avoid getting caught.

The Cleveland Way

Running between Helmsley, just inland from Scarborough, looping round to the north and back down the coast to Filey, The Cleveland Way is a 109 mile route that takes in the splendour of the Yorkshire Moors as well as the area’s stunning coastline. With plenty of ascents and descents and some climbing in places, it’s not a walk for the fainthearted – choose a small section of the route to enjoy, or tackle the entire route in stages for a true challenge!

The Scarborough Tourist Information Centre has a wealth of information on further walking routes in the area, from learning about the area’s history with town and city walks, to escaping to the Moors for true peace and quiet. Whichever your preference, you know there will be a warm and comfortable welcome waiting for you when you return to your Staxton Vale holiday home.
